Saudi Arabia Announces Purchase of Military Equipment from the U.S.

A responsible official at the Saudi Ministry of Defense today issued the following statement:

As a result of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' commitment to providing all the branches of the Saudi Armed Forces with the highest defensive capabilities available, agreement was reached between the governments of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America through the Foreign Military Sales program of the U.S. Defense Department, to acquire (84) F-15SA advanced fighter aircraft, and to upgrade (70) F-15S aircraft currently in the Royal Saudi Air Force inventory. In addition, agreement was reached to acquire (70) Apache Block 3 helicopters, (72) Black Hawk multi-purpose helicopters, (36) AH-60-I armed reconnaissance helicopters, and (12) MD-S30F helicopters. The agreements also include munitions, spare parts, maintenance, training and support over a number of years to ensure that the Kingdom acquires the highest level of defensive capabilities possible to protect its people and territory.
