Crown Prince Salman chairs Cabinet session (12/10/12)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh this afternoon. At the outset, he praised God Almighty for bestowing good health and recovery upon the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, following the latter’s successful surgery. The Crown Prince noted that the King’s prestigious, influential international status, coupled with the Kingdom’s current renaissance, has led the U.S. publication Forbes Magazine to rank King Abdullah as the most powerful person in the Arab world – and the seventh most powerful individual globally.
After being briefed on the latest regional and international developments, the Cabinet welcomed the holding of the 8th Manama Dialogue Forum in Bahrain. The ministers renewed their condemnation of Israel’s continued settlement construction on Palestinian territories, including its recent decision to build 3,000 housing units in the West Bank and Al-Quds [Jerusalem]. Finally, the Cabinet reviewed the outcome of the 18th Conference on the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Doha, expressing hope that the Convention will be strengthened and that climate change will be adequately addressed after 2020.
Then, the Cabinet reviewed the scientific, cultural and social conferences and activities held last week in the Kingdom, including the celebration marking the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Prince Salman Center for Disability Research (PSCDR).
Finally, the Cabinet discussed the efforts exerted by the Kingdom to correct misconceptions about Islam, and then listened to briefings on the annual reports of the Agriculture Development Fund for fiscal years 1427-1430 H. and the General Presidency for the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice for fiscal years (1427-1429 H.
Turning to its weekly agenda, the Cabinet approved a number of measures regarding the central control sector and the investigation agencies, including the transference of the duties of the Control and Investigation Bureau to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution; approved the strategic plan to develop the performance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; authorized the President General of Meteorology and Environmental Protection to sign a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of environmental protection with Morocco; approved the final account of the Grain Silos and Flour Mills Organization for fiscal year 1431-1432 H.; and approved the organization of the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation.
