Crown Prince chairs Cabinet’s session (11/19/12)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet’s session at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh this afternoon. At the outset, the ministers expressed gratitude for the success of the surgery undergone by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, praying to God Almighty to bestow upon the monarch good health and a quick recovery.
Then, the Crown Prince gave a briefing on the latest contacts between the King and himself and foreign officials, especially regarding developments in the occupied Palestinian territories. The Cabinet commended the decisions of the extraordinary meeting of the Arab League Council regarding Israel’s aggression against Gaza. It condemned the Israeli actions and called upon the United Nations Security Council to assume its responsibility to end the attacks against the innocent people of Gaza.
The Cabinet reviewed the latest efforts to deal with the situation in Syria, including the 2nd Joint Ministerial Meeting for Strategic Dialogue between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Russia; the Arab Ministerial Committee meeting on the situation in Syria; and the 2nd Arab-European Meeting at the level of foreign ministers. The ministers expressed the Kingdom’s appreciation for all those efforts, looking forward to more unified, international efforts to tackle the crisis and provide the necessary political, security and humanitarian support to the Syrian people.
The Cabinet also welcomed the Djibouti Declaration, issued by the 39th session of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, which stressed the principles contained in the interfaith and intercultural dialogue initiatives of King Abdullah. Finally, the ministers lauded the signing by the Interior Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states of a security agreement, stressing that this step is important for enhancing security cooperation and coordination in the interest of the GCC states and peoples.
Turning to its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet authorized the Crown Prince to sign a draft cooperation agreement between the Saudi Defense Ministry and the Korean National Defense Ministry; approved the amendment of the 4th article of Cabinet decision No. 202 on 22/6/1430 H. regarding the gathering of biometrics of visa applicants; and endorsed the GCC Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee’s decision exempting goods belonging to people with special needs from customs duties.
