Crown Prince chairs Cabinet session (10/28/13)
October 28, 2013
Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz began the Cabinet session at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh this afternoon by thanking God for enabling the success of this year’s Hajj season and allowing pilgrims to perform their rituals with comfort and ease. He praised all the workers who participated in the massive undertaking and expressed appreciation towards Muslims around the world for voluntarily reducing the number of pilgrims participating in Hajj this year due to construction at the holy sites.
After congratulating the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz on the success of this year’s Hajj season, the Cabinet reviewed a number of reports on regional events. Noting the situations in the occupied Arab territories and Syria, the ministers reiterated the Kingdom’s demand that the United Nations Security Council shoulder its responsibilities towards these crises. It called for Security Council reform, lest the world lose confidence in the United Nations and other international bodies.
The Council appreciated the positive reactions received by the Kingdom from many countries after the release of the final results of the comprehensive periodic review of human rights in the Kingdom by the Human Rights Council in Geneva. It stressed that Saudi Arabia works to protect and promote human rights, on the basis of adherence to the Holy Quran, and rejected the politicization of human rights, selectivity and double standards.
Turning to its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved the application of decision No. (246) relating to paying assistance to Saudis affected by disasters while legally working abroad; approved a new series of tourism regulations; made appointments to both the Cooperative Health Insurance Council and the Board of Directors of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority; and approved the adoption of standard rules for listing securities on the financial markets of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The Cabinet approved the appointments of Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Yahya as Chief of Guidance and Direction Service at the Ministry of the National Guard (15th rank); Abdullah Al-Askar as Sector President at the Ministry of Finance (14th rank); Huda Al-Rasheed as Information Technology Advisor at the Ministry of Civil Service (14th rank); and Abdullah Al-Marwani as Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry for Planning at the Ministry of Economy and Planning (14th rank).
