Ministry of Health spokesman Dr. Khalid Marghalani said today at a press conference in Mina that between October 6 and October 12, over 270,000 pilgrims received treatment at Ministry of Health-run hospitals and clinics in Makkah and Medinah. Dr. Marghalani added that 1,682 pilgrims were hospitalized, all but 389 have been discharged.
Medical treatment included 232 cardiac surgeries, 11 open-heart surgeries, and 737 kidney dialysis. The minister also reported six babies were born to pilgrims during the Hajj.
The spokesman noted that the ministry's health authorities managed to move patients by ambulances from place to place so that no sick pilgrim would miss any of their Hajj rituals.
