October 6, 2009

The first plane of an ongoing Saudi airlift arrived today at Soekarno-Hatta International airport in Jakarta carrying 100 tons of emergency aid, including tents, foodstuffs, blankets and rugs. The humanitarian supplies will provide relief to victims of a major earthquake that hit Indonesia last week. The cargo was received by Saudi Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulrahman Ameen Al-Khayat. The governor of Padang, which was at the epicenter of the earthquake, expressed his appreciation for the Saudi aid and noted that Ambassador Al-Khayat was the first foreign ambassador to tour the disaster site in Eastern Sumatra.
