The Ministry of Interior has identified the perpetrator of the attack against Assistant Minister of Interior for Security Affairs Prince Muhammad bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, which occurred last Thursday in Jeddah, as Abdullah bin Hassan bin Talea’ Asiri. The suicide bomber, who was wanted by authorities, hailed from a region bordering Yemen and had offered to help coordinate the return of Saudi fugitives in Yemen. However, when he met with Prince Muhammad to discuss the efforts, Asiri set of an explosive device strapped to his body. While the bomber was killed, no one else received serious injuries.
In the wake of the attack, the Ministry of Interior once again denounced terrorism and insisted that the open-door policy of Saudi Arabia’s rulers would not change. Furthermore, authorities continue to urge Saudis involved in extremist activities abroad to return home and surrender themselves.
