August 26, 2013

Second Deputy Prime Minister Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Sallam Palace in Jeddah this afternoon. At the outset, the Cabinet expressed its condolences to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Prince Muqrin on the death of Prince Musaed bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. After accepting the condolences, Prince Muqrin thanked all the employees in various sectors who served the pilgrims and Umrah (minor Hajj) performers during the holy month of Ramadan, allowing the rituals to be performed comfortably and safely.

Following a briefing on the latest developments in a number of Arab countries, the Cabinet praised the message delivered by King Abdullah on the events in Egypt. It welcomed his strong support for the Egyptian people against terrorism, sedition and external interference and hoped that security and stability will prevail in Egypt.

The ministers reiterated the Kingdom’s call for the international community, represented by the Security Council, to shoulder its responsibilities towards the Syrian people, who continue to suffer from appalling massacres. They warned that a failure to act in the face of the Assad regime’s use of chemical weapons against its own people will only invite more tragedies.

The ministers also condemned the terrorist bombings that targeted two mosques in the Lebanese city of Tripoli, leading to a large number of deaths and injuries.

Turning to local affairs, the Cabinet discussed the annual reports on the General Authority for Survey and the Ministry of Education and listened to a briefing on the draft executive program and timetable for the privatization of flour mills.

Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Council of Ministers approved the accession of the Ministry of Education to the National Committee for Geographic Information Systems; approved the amendment of the name of the National Committee for the Care of Psychiatric Patients and Their Families contained in the Council of Ministers Resolution No. (104) to the National Committee for the Promotion of Mental Health; approved the Regulation of Protection from Abuse; and approved the organization of the National Center for Health Information.
