Cabinet briefed on Sudan, Palestinian situation

Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah today.

The Crown Prince briefed the Cabinet on his recent meeting with Sudanese Vice President Ali Othman Taha and called for stepping up efforts to find a political resolution to the crisis in Darfur.

On Palestine, the Cabinet highlighted the importance of achieving national unity and resolving differences through dialogue. It also called on the international community to pressure Israel to lift its siege of Palestinian areas and stop building new settlements.

Several agreements were authorized today, including political cooperation agreements with Greece and the United Kingdom. Also approved were tourism accords with Azerbaijan and Greece and an agreement on Islamic affairs and endowment cooperation with Morocco.

In addition, the Cabinet approved an amendment to Article 66 of the Law of Anti Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances as well as the establishment of an insurance dispute and violation adjudicating committee.
