The International Islamic Relief Organization of Saudi Arabia (IIROSA), an affiliate of the Muslim World League (MWL), has sponsored 1,212 open-heart surgeries and angioplasties performed on a number of youths in several Muslim countries, according to IIROSA Secretary General Dr. Adnan bin Khalil Basha. In a press statement, Basha noted that the figure includes 797 surgeries in Yemen; 200 in Egypt; 73 in Morocco; 71 in Kazakhstan; 43 in Syria; and 36 in Pakistan. “Medical teams have been dispatched to these countries,” he said. “They are comprised of doctors, consultants and surgeons . . . They have been well-assisted by a group of paramedical staff and nurses during the operations.”
Basha said that the surgical campaigns have been supported by volunteer doctors from the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, the Czech Republic, Oman, Syria, Jordan, Sudan, and the Philippines. He also praised the surgeons and consultants from the Riyadh-based Prince Sultan Center for Treatment of Diseases and Heart Surgery, who have been cooperating with the IIROSA in critical areas of medical care.
