The Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has welcomed the arrest of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, who was wanted for war crimes.

In a statement issued yesterday, Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu described the arrest of Karadzic as a major step towards bringing justice to Bosnia’s Muslims and other victims of genocide and war crimes. It closes a tragic chapter in the history of the Balkan region and opens a new era of reconciliation and peaceful coexistence, Ihsanoglu said.
