Crown Prince chairs Cabinet session (7/8/13)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting in Jeddah today. The ministers extended their congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Crown Prince, the Second Deputy Prime Minister, the Saudi people, and the Arab and Islamic nations on the occasion of the advent of the holy month of Ramadan. They prayed to God Almighty to help everyone in their fasting and prayers and wished for the spread of compassion and unity among all Muslims.
Then, the Cabinet reviewed a number of reports on the latest regional and international developments, focusing particularly on events in Egypt and Syria. It congratulated interim Egyptian President Adli Mansour, stressing that current conditions in Egypt require wise and sincere actions to maintain the country’s security and stability.
The Cabinet denounced the deteriorating situation in Syria, in which the illegitimate Assad regime is using heavy weapons against its own people. It called upon the international community to halt the violence and genocide and to ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance to civilians. The ministers expressed regret over the failure of the United Nations Security Council to adopt a statement calling for the admittance of humanitarian aid to the besieged city of Homs. However, they welcomed the election by the Syrian opposition of Ahmad Assi Al-Jarba as their new president.
The Cabinet also expressed appreciation to Tunisian Prime Minister Ali Al-Areedh, who recently visited the Kingdom, for his praise of the strong relations between Saudi Arabia and Tunisia.
On domestic affairs, the Crown Prince was briefed on all the preparations undertaken by various private and governmental bodies for providing the best services for visitors and Umrah (minor pilgrimage) performers during the holy month of Ramadan.
Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved the establishment of an organizational unit at the Ministry of Agriculture called the “Center for Seeds”; authorized the General President of Youth Welfare to sign a draft memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of Belarus in the field of sports; and authorized the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance to sign a draft Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs in the Maldives in the field of Islamic affairs and endowments.
The Cabinet approved the appointments of Prince Khalid bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud as Administrative Advisor at the Ministry of Interior (15th rank); Mohammed Al-Haqbani as Governorate Undersecretary at the Governorate of Tabuk Province (15th rank); Abdullah Al-Fawzan as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Fahd Khallaf as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Latifa Nian as Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs at the Ministry of Social Affairs (14th rank); Suleiman Al-Muqbel as Administrative Advisor at the Ministry of Social Affairs (14th rank); and Rashed Al-Qasim as Director General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at Control and Investigation Authority (14th rank).
