Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah this evening. The Council began by congratulating the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, the Crown Prince, the Deputy Crown Prince, the people of the Kingdom and the Arab and Islamic nations on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, asking God Almighty to help all in their fasting and worshipping.

The minsters praised the Ramadan speech delivered by King Abdullah, in which he stressed that Islam is a religion of unity, brotherhood, bonding and advocacy and reiterated the Kingdom’s rejection of and fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They also thanked the King for his royal directive mandating that all necessary measures be taken to protect the homeland and its people against terrorist organizations and regional turmoil.

Then, the Cabinet listened to a number of reports on regional and international development. It reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to achieving Islamic solidarity, as illustrated by its hosting of the annual meeting of the Council of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). The ministers noted the great achievements made by the IDB, as it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

The Cabinet denounced the brutal tactics being launched against the Palestinian people by the Israeli occupation authorities and called upon the international community to take prompt action to halt the imposition of tyrannical measures and collective punishments. It also condemned the terrorist explosions that recently struck Cairo and Beirut, expressing support for the efforts of the Egyptian and Lebanese governments to pursue terrorist cells.

Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved the appointment of the Undersecretary of the Makkah Region Principality, Dr. Iqab Al-Lwiheq, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Al-Balad Al-Ameen Company for Development and Urban Development and the Board of Directors of the Jeddah Company for Development and Urban Development; approved the continuation of importing Palestinian goods and products, as well as the government’s decision to shoulder the financial customs’ fees for a year; authorized the Minister of Transport to sign a draft memorandum of cooperation between the Kingdom and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for participation in the Voluntary IMO Member State Audit Scheme; and approved the Organic Farming System.
