King congratulates Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, new Qatari Emir

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has sent a cable of congratulations to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the new Emir of Qatar, on the occasion of his assumption of leadership. The King expressed “in my name and on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people, our sincere congratulations, praying to God Almighty to help you to achieve the aspirations of progress and prosperity for the state of Qatar and its brotherly people.” He added, “We are confident that you will continue the march of your father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and his efforts in the service of the state of Qatar and its people and the strengthening of relations between the two brotherly countries.”

King Abdullah also made a telephone call today to Sheikh Tamim, in which he wished him, Qatar and its people further progress and prosperity.

Meanwhile, Second Deputy Prime Minister Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz paid a visit to Sheikh Tamim at the Emir’s Divan in Doha. During the reception, Prince Muqrin personally conveyed the congratulations of the government and people of Saudi Arabia.

Crown Prince Salman also spoke by phone with Sheikh Tamim today and sent a cable of congratulations to the new Qatari leader.
