Vice Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the weekly Cabinet's session at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah this afternoon. Prince Salman began the meeting by briefing the Cabinet on his talks with Egyptian President Abdul-Fattah Al-Sisi during his participation in the inauguration ceremony of President Al-Sisi June 8.
Next, the Cabinet reviewed the latest regional and international developments, commended the statement issued by the Ministerial Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in its regular 131st session and its decisions that confirmed the established positions of the GCC countries towards the developments of joint action on regional and international political, and economic issues.
The Council of Ministers welcomed the formation of the Palestinian national reconciliation government and considered it an important step to promote the unity of the Palestinian people and called on the international community to support the unity government so that it can promote the interest of all Palestinians and restore their legitimate rights. The council also condemned the plans construction of new Israeli settlement in the West Bank, including East Al-Quds (East Jerusalem). The cabinet called on the international community to address these arbitrary actions aimed at undermining the peace process.
Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved the addition of Commander of the Royal Guard to the membership of Military Service Council; amendment of regulatory judgment contained in Article 5 of the National Center for Documentation and Archives pertaining to members of the center’s commission; authorized the Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, or his deputy, to discuss a defense cooperation memorandum of understanding with the Czech Republic; approved a cooperation agreement in the field of transfer of persons sentenced to freedom depriving punishments with Republic of Yemen signed in Jeddah Shawwal 11, 1434H (September 15, 2013). Lastly, the cabinet approved the renewal of the appointment of Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Suwailem as Vice President of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology for Support for Scientific Research at rank fifteen for a period of four years starting effective from Dhul-Qa`dah 10, 1435H (September 4, 2014).
