Crown Prince chairs Cabinet session (4/28/14)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah this afternoon. At the outset, the Crown Prince and the Cabinet congratulated the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz on the ninth anniversary of his ascension to the throne, praying to God Almighty to preserve the monarch and crown his efforts with all success. They lauded the great strides made by the Kingdom during the past decade, citing massive development projects and continued economic prosperity, while also praising the King’s wise policies towards regional and international issues.
After reviewing the latest developments in Syria, the Cabinet expressed deep concern over the deterioration of the humanitarian situation caused by the regime’s continued intransigence. It called upon the international community to deliver relief materials to the people of Syria, as the Saudi National Campaign to Support the Brothers in Syria has been doing for years.
The ministers welcomed the reconciliation agreement reached between the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and Hamas, which was based on the Makkah Agreement, expressing hope that this development will strengthen Palestinian unity.
Then, the Cabinet reviewed a number of scientific, cultural and economic events that took place in the Kingdom last week, including the 14th Scientific Forum for Hajj Research, the 2nd World Conference on Combating Terrorism, the 2nd Scientific Conference; the 9th Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud Competition to Memorize the Hadith; and the Conference on the Knowledge Economy and its Role in National Development.
Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved an administrative organization plan for the Ministry of Labor’s court and an organizational structure for the Ministry’s branches in districts and labor offices in the governorates; authorized the Crown Prince to sign a draft agreement with Romania for cooperation in the field of defense; authorized the Foreign Minister to sign two draft conventions for cooperation with Gambia and the Comoros; approved the formation of a committee at the Ministry of the Interior under the name “Standing Committee on the Transfer of Persons Sentenced to Freedom Depriving Punishments”; approved the amended Unified Agreement for the Investment of Arab Capital in the Arab States; and approved the appointment of three members to the Board of Directors of the Public Education Assessment Commission.
The Cabinet approved the appointments of Mohammed Al-Sadhan as Civil Engineer Consultant at the Royal Saudi Naval Forces at the Ministry of Defense (14th rank); Abdulrahman Al-Gharir as Director General of Financial Affairs at the Directorate General of Medical Services of the Armed Forces of the Ministry of Defense (14th rank); Abdullah Al-Mutairi as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mohammed Al-Bawardi as Regular Expert (A) at the Bureau of Experts of the Cabinet (15th rank); and Abdulaziz Al-Suhaibani as Regular Expert (A) at the Bureau of Experts of the Cabinet (14th rank).
