King Abdullah chairs Cabinet session

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz began the Cabinet session at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh today with a briefing on his official visit to Bahrain. He praised the generous hospitality he and his accompanying delegation enjoyed from King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa and the government and people of Bahrain, describing it as reflective of the depth of bilateral relations. The King also reviewed talks he held with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa and the message he received from French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The Cabinet listened to a report on developments in the Arab, regional and international arenas, particularly in the occupied Palestinian territories and Iraq. The Cabinet reiterated the Kingdom’s condemnation of Israeli practices in Palestinian territories and denounced terrorist bombings in Iraq, which have claimed many innocent lives.

The ministers then discussed a number of domestic issues, including King Abdullah’s visit to the Eastern Province and the signing of the first contract to build homes for displaced people in Jazan Province. After listening to a report from the Minister of Economy and Planning on preparations to launch the general census, which will begin Tuesday, April 27, 2010, the Cabinet called upon all citizens and expatriates to cooperate in the endeavor, noting that the data collected will help the state allocate necessary public services.

Turning to its agenda, the Cabinet approved an agreement on air services between the Kingdom and Uzbekistan, signed in Jeddah on 07/04/2009; established the “General Authority of Endowments” and detailed the powers and responsibilities given to the new body; ordered those representing the Kingdom at international bodies to be cognizant of organizations that are not eligible for donations or aid; granted the Saudi Electricity Company an interest-free 25 year loan of SR 15 billion to be paid to the company over two years; and approved the amendment to of paragraph (4) of Article (III) of the General Regulations for the Environment, issued by Royal Decree No. (M 34) and dated of 28/7/1422 H, to read: “4- Preparation of environmental draft regulations relating to its responsibilities without prejudice to the powers of the Environmental Council.”

The Cabinet approved the appointments of Ibrahim Al-Muhaimeed as Management Consultant at the Ministry of Finance (15th rank); Dr. Mohammed Al-Saud as Undersecretary of the Ministry for Water Affairs at the Ministry of Water and Electricity (15th rank); Fahd bin Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Hidayan as Security Adviser at the Ministry of the Interior (14th rank); and Khaled Al-Jaber, Hammad Al-Ruwaili and Fouad Rajeh as Ministers Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
