Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh today.
King Abdullah briefed the Cabinet on his recent meetings with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Sabah and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. He reiterated Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people, their rights and national unity.
The Cabinet said that it was following recent events in Iraq with great concern, and reiterated Saudi Arabia’s support for Iraq’s territorial integrity and the avoidance of foreign interference.
Turning to economic matters, the Cabinet reviewed a number of reports on the global economic situation. King Abdullah directed that certain international economic issues, including lower production of some foodstuffs in their countries of origin as well as increasing consumption and prices, should be dealt with carefully in order to minimize the effect on the Saudi economy.
The Cabinet authorized the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology to negotiate a draft agreement on scientific and technical cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the United States.
Also approved were a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on civil defense with Morocco, a draft MoU on Islamic affairs and endowments with Indonesia, a draft MoU on scientific and educational cooperation with Argentina, and separate agreements on the protection of investment with Turkey and Switzerland. The Cabinet also authorized the Supreme Commission for Tourism to join the Arab Tourism Guides Union.
