Crown Prince chairs Cabinet session (3/24/14)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz began the Cabinet session at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh this afternoon by expressing, on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, best wishes for the success of the 25th Arab Summit to be held in Kuwait tomorrow.
Then, the Cabinet discussed a number of reports on the latest regional and international developments. After being briefed on the report of the Independent International Fact-Finding Committee on Syria, the ministers expressed deep concern over the increasing suffering of the Syrian people. They reaffirmed the necessity of providing assistance to Syrian refugees, while also ensuring that the perpetrators of war crimes be brought to justice. The Cabinet stressed the Kingdom’s commitment to upholding human rights – both at home and abroad – as illustrated by its cooperation with the U.N. Human Rights Council.
Turning to domestic events, the Cabinet praised the statement of King Abdullah, delivered at the 2nd Conference of Ministers of Youth and Sports in Islamic Countries last week, in which the monarch emphasized the importance of preparing young people academically, physically, and psychologically to meet present and future challenges. It also welcomed the holding of the 2nd Arab-Hungarian Economic Forum, reaffirming the Kingdom’s eagerness to develop commercial and economic cooperation with friendly countries. Finally, the ministers praised the 2014 National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity, in which 72 people were awarded prizes for scientific research and innovation. They noted that the development of scientific education is a key part of the Kingdom’s transition to a knowledge-based economy.
Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved the amendment to the unified rules for the licensing of economic and technical liaison offices in the Kingdom, issued by Royal Decree No. (M/12); approved the final accounts of the Saudi Wildlife Commission for fiscal year 2011/2012; authorized the Minister of Finance to sign draft agreements with both Venezuela and Kosovo on the avoidance of double taxation and income tax evasion; approved the licensing of the Saudi Arabian Company for Industrial Investments (Saudi Joint Stock Company); approved the Electricity and Cogeneration Regulatory Commission’s signing of a final clearance agreement with the Saudi Electricity Company on 19/06/1432 H.; and approved the organization of medical cities and specialized hospitals affiliated to the Ministry of Health.
