Islamic Consultative Team adopts urgent working plan to eradicate polio

The first meeting of the International Islamic Consultative Team, tasked with eradicating polio in Islamic countries, was held at the headquarters of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah yesterday. The delegates adopted a six-month plan, referred to as the “Jeddah Declaration,” which aims at wiping out the disease. The event was chaired by the President of the International Islamic Jurisprudence Complex, Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Humaid, who is also the Imam and Khateeb of the Grand Mosque in Makkah. At the end of the meeting, the senior Ulema declared that protection from illnesses, including polio, is a duty according to Sharia law.
