Update: Two pilgrim buses collide near the Saudi-UAE border, killing 22

Two buses carrying Hajj pilgrims returning to the United Arab Emirates collided in Ahsa today, killing 22 and injuring 24. The accident happened around 7 km from the Saudi-UAE border. A Saudi Red Crescent official said that the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

In a statement today, the Saudi Red Crescent Society clarified that there were no Egyptian or Pakistani pilgrims among the dead or injured as was previously reported. The victims were exclusively Syrian and Kyrgyz, he said.
