King Abdullah meets with Palestinian president

  King Abdullah and President Abbas

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Jeddah today.

Abbas arrived in Saudi Arabia today for talks with Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyah, at the invitation of King Abdullah.

During the meeting, King Abdullah wished the Palestinians success in their talks, which are due to begin in Makkah today. He said that the discord in the Palestinian territories only benefits the enemies of the Muslim nation, and that it prevents the Palestinian people from realizing their national rights.

In turn, Abbas welcomed the Kingdom’s firm support for Palestinian rights and the establishment of a Palestinian state.

King Abdullah also received several messages of support today for his offer to host the Palestinian talks in Makkah. One was from former US President Jimmy Carter, and a second from Palestinians residing in Saudi Arabia.
