Palestinian leaders began talks in Makkah today, at the invitation of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.

The closed-door talks included Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Prime Minister Ismail Haniyah, and Khalid Mishaal, head of the Political Bureau of Hamas, as well as Fatah and Hamas officials. Prior to the meeting, all three expressed the hope that the meeting would result in an agreement.

The Palestinian groups took a break to attend a luncheon hosted by King Abdullah, then resumed talks.
