Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz met today with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin today for talks about regional and international issues, including Iraq, Lebanon, the Palestinian situation, the crisis over Iran’s nuclear program, counterterrorism and the upcoming Middle East peace summit in Annapolis, Maryland. Bilateral relations were also discussed.
Crown Prince Sultan was in Russia for a three-day official visit, which ended today with the issuance of a joint Russian-Saudi communiqué.
In the communiqué, both countries highlighted the importance of enhancing Saudi-Russian efforts in support of the peace process and called on the international community to provide more assistance to the Palestinian people.
The communiqué stressed the importance of supporting unity in both Iraq and Lebanon, and called for a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction. Both Saudi Arabia and Russia also denounced terrorism in all forms.
On energy issues, the countries highlighted the importance of global market stability and confirmed their intention to enhance bilateral cooperation related to energy.
