Three French nationals killed in attack in western Saudi Arabia

Three French nationals were shot dead today in an attack in western Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Interior said today.

The Ministry said that a group of French nationals – four men, three women and two children – were resting in a desert area about 10 miles from the Madinah-Tabuk Highway when an unidentified vehicle opened fire on them.

Two of the French travelers, both male, were immediately killed in the attack.  The remaining two French men in the group were severely injured, and one later died of his wounds in the hospital.

Upon receiving reports of the attacks, Saudi authorities immediately rushed to the scene. The three Frenchwomen and two children were taken to Madinah.

The Ministry said that some in the group were on their way to Makkah to perform the umrah when they were attacked.

An investigation into the attack is underway, the Ministry said.
