Saudi Ambassador to the US, Adel Al-Jubeir, presented Captain Joe Grant with Friends of Saudi Arabia's Hart Award. A reception was held in Captain Grants’ honor at the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, Thursday, March 22, 2007. Mr. Grant was presented the Hart Award in recognition for his “…achievements in fostering friendship, goodwill and mutual understanding between the United States and Saudi Arabia.” Mr. Grant, who will celebrated his 99th birthday Saturday, was the first airline pilot for King Abdulaziz in 1945.
The Hart Award is named for Ambassador Parker T. Hart who opened the first US Consulate in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia over 60 years and served as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1961-1965. Ambassador Hart, who passed away in 1997, also served as U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait and Turkey and as Minister to the Yemen.
