King Abdullah informed about agreement on Darfur

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz received a telephone call about the crisis in Darfur from Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir last night.

The president informed King Abdullah that the Sudanese government has signed a joint agreement with the United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU) to determine the responsibilities of AU and UN forces in Darfur.

The agreement is a result of the March 28, 2007 meeting held on the sideline of the Arab Summit in Riyadh (March 28-29, 2007).  King Abdullah convened a special meeting of the concerned parties to discuss resolving the issue in Darfur.  The meeting was attended by Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir, United Nation Secretary General Ban Ki-moon,  Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa, Chairman of the African Union Alpha Oumar Konaré, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal and Sudanese Foreign Minister Dr. Lam Akol.
