Saudi relief airlift to Mauritania begins

The Saudi airlift to provide relief supplies to flood-stricken Mauritania is underway. The first Saudi relief plane arrived in Nouakchott today carrying more than 72 tons of foodstuffs, medical supplies, tents and blankets. A second plane also left Riyadh today with 96.5 tons of foodstuffs and 3,511 tents.

The airlift will consist of five relief planes carrying a total of 350 tons of various relief aid. The Kingdom has also granted $20 million in urgent aid to provide immediate relief to flood victims.

In related news, Saudi Arabia has delivered the second and third installments of aid worth $533,261 [SR 2 million] for Yemen’s malaria control program.
