More than 1.7 million pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia for the Hajj

A total of 1,707,814 pilgrims have travelled to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj, an increase of 3 percent over last year.

Minister of Interior Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz made the announcement in a cable to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz today.

The pilgrims represent 181 countries, Prince Nayef said. Fifty-four percent are male and 46 percent female.

In related news, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced that food supplies at the holy sites are satisfactory. More than 408 inspections were conducted and expired food items confiscated.
