Omani conjoined twins were successfully separated at the National Guard’s King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) in Riyadh Sunday.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabi’a, Executive Director of Health Affairs at the hospital and head of the 60-member surgical team that performed the operation, said that the twin girls were in stable condition.
The 18-hour surgery was carried out in seven stages with the participation of 22 different specialists, Al-Rabi’a said.
The girls, Safa and Marwa, were brought to the Kingdom in December 2006. As in previous cases, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz funded the surgery and related expenses.
