The Ministry of Interior has confirmed that a building being used as a hostel for Hajj pilgrims collapsed in Makkah today, killing at least 20 and injuring 59 so far.

The four-story building collapsed at 1pm local time (10am GMT), said a Makkah civil defense official. Authorities rushed to the scene and immediately began rescue operations and medical evacuations.

Undersecretary for Makkah Province Abdullah Al-Fayez told reporters that Civil defense, Hajj security forces and the Saudi Red Crescent are continuing rescue operations and debris removal at the site of the collapse.
