Foreign Minister cautions against prejudging Hamas

Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal gave a brief press conference today in Kuala Lumpur. Prince Saud is accompanying Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz on his four-nation Asian tour.

Commenting on the recent Palestinian elections, Prince Saud said, “Hamas was a movement. Now, it is a government. I think they will behave responsibly as a government. The international community should see first what this government will do instead of judging Hamas based on the language it used when it was a movement.”

Prince Saud said that the Saudi government is still awaiting a positive response from the Danish government over the matter of blasphemous cartoons that were published by a Danish newspaper. “This has not happened yet,” he said. The Saudi ambassador to Denmark was recalled over the matter.
