Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal met with the foreign minister of the Netherlands, Bernard Bot, in Riyadh today.

In remarks after the meeting, Prince Saud said that he and Bot had a lengthy discussion of Arab-European relations, bilateral issues, developments in the Middle East, the recent Palestinian parliamentary elections and the upcoming elections in Israel.

Prince Saud said that he hoped measures would be taken to prevent future incidents like the publication of blasphemous cartoons by a Danish newspaper.

Bot added that the two ministers discussed Hamas’ victory in the Palestinian elections, and remarked that Hamas might change its approach to political issues once it becomes part of a new government. Bot said that Europe intends to continue its support for the Palestinian Authority, then wait and see.
