The US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia James Oberwetter today praised Saudi security forces for their efforts in foiling yesterday’s terrorist attack on the Abqaiq oil refinery. He also lauded the Kingdom’s tight security at its oil facilities.

“I visited that facility on two earlier occasions, and I know first hand the robust security systems that are in place there. When they were needed, those systems worked, and the facility at Abqaiq was fully protected,” Ambassador Oberwetter said in a statement posted on the US Embassy in Riyadh’s Web site.

“The Saudi government and Saudi Aramco deserve considerable credit for what they have done in recent years to enhance the security of oil facilities throughout the Kingdom,” he noted.
