Two Saudi security members killed in Jeddah gunfight

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that a gunfight erupted outside the Rouwais prison in Jeddah yesterday when shots were fired at security guards from a neighboring building. Two security members were killed in the attack. Authorities are investigating the incident.

In a second statement today, Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki refuted incorrect media reports concerning the incident in Jeddah. He said that at this time no one has been arrested in connection with the attack, and that there had been no shootings near the Turkish or American consulates.

“This incident is being followed up by the security authorities, who have launched an investigation necessary to identify the perpetrators of the incident and arrest them in accordance with the procedures of professional practice in this context,” Al-Turki said.
