Civil Defense rescues injured Russian from a ship in the Red Sea

The Saudi Civil Defense today successfully evacuated an injured Russian man from a Maltese vessel in the Red Sea.

Brig. Gen. Yahya Ananaj, commander of the Makkah Civil Defense airbase, said that Saudi authorities received a distress call from the ship, which was located in Saudi territorial waters 106 miles southwest of Jeddah.

A Civil Defense plane took off from the airbase and was able to evacuate the injured man, who was identified as 23-year-old Russian national Dimitri Vengov, and a second 32-year-old Russian man identified as Vassili. Vengov was then airlifted to the King Abdulaziz Hospital in Jeddah for medical treatment.

Gen. Ananaj also said that the rescue operation was performed in record time under the supervision of Commander of the Civil Defense Brig. Gen. Abdullah Almaghrabi.
