Before leaving Manila, President Arroyo issued a press statement about her visit to the Kingdom.

“As a developing nation, the Philippines is hit hard by the high price of oil, and I look to our Saudi friends to help us pioneer new and innovative ways to become energy-independent,” she said, as quoted in the Arab News.

The visit was also expected to focus on overseas Filipino workers as well as the Philippines’ bid for observer status in the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the Arab News reported today.
