Saudi Arabia recently submitted a document to the UN Security Council outlining its implementation system for enforcing international laws that prohibit chemical weapons, according to documents released by the UN. The document was submitted in response to a general request by the Security Council’s nonproliferation committee.

The document outlines the procedure to obtain permits for non-prohibited chemical activities, including in the industrial, agricultural and medical sectors. Once a permit is obtained, a strict reporting schedule must be adhered to, and the Saudi government must be informed of exactly how many chemicals were produced. In addition, annual reports on chemical activities must be given.
