Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers held their 99th ministerial meeting last night, chaired by United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nahayyan. Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal led the Saudi delegation. In his opening address, Sheikh Abdullah stressed the GCC’s call for a Middle East free of all weapons of mass destruction.
Following their closed session, the ministers released a statement expressing support for the GCC candidates for the posts of director general and assistant director general of the Arab Organization of Industrial and Mining Development. It also supported Yemen’s candidate for the post of assistant executive secretary of the Economic and Social Committee for West Asia. The statement also expressed satisfaction with the GCC’s negotiations with other countries and economic groups.
