OIC executive committee to hold emergency talks on Lebanon

The executive committee of the Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) will hold an emergency meeting on the crises in Lebanon, OIC chief Dr Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said today. The meeting will take place Thursday in Malaysia.

Ihsanoglu said the meeting had been called "in view of the unrelenting Israeli assault on Gaza and Lebanon and the dangerous escalation of tension in the Middle East." He also urged the UN Security Council to take action to bring about an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hizballah.

The seven-member OIC executive committee includes Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Senegal, Yemen, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Malaysia.
