Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal arrived in Cairo today to attend an extraordinary meeting of Arab foreign ministers.
The ministerial meeting will address four main issues: an Arab ministerial report to the UN on the Lebanese issue before Resolution 1701; Arab efforts to convene a high-level meeting to discuss the Arab-Israeli conflict; a mechanism to help reconstruction in Lebanon; and a follow-up on discussions to hold an Arab summit.
An Arab League official said that today’s meeting signifies a transition from solidarity with Lebanon while it was under Israeli attack to reconstruction efforts.
In Cairo today, Prince Saud met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa. The foreign minister also attended an Arab League-affiliated ministerial committee meeting on Sudan. The committee expressed its support for Sudan’s position opposing international troops in Sudan’s Darfur region.
