Saudi security forces surrounded a group of armed gunmen in Jeddah early today, the Ministry of Interior announced. Security forces pursued the suspects to the Al-Jamea neighborhood of Jeddah, where the suspects then hid in a building.

Security forces immediate evacuated the building’s residents and secured the area. The militants continued to shoot at forces from the building.

In a second statement, the Ministry said that all four suspects have surrendered to security forces. Two of the suspects had escaped from Al-Malaz Prison on July 6, 2006. No citizens or members of the security forces were injured in the gunfight.
