Islamic Development Bank pledges $500 million for tsunami relief

The Saudi-based Islamic Development Bank (IDB) today pledged U.S. $500 million in relief aid operations and reconstruction of devastated areas affected by the tsunami which struck the Indian Ocean region December 26, 2004.  On January 2, IDB allocated $10 million in emergency aid for the tsunami victims and stated it was assessing the future needs of the affected areas in coordination with United Nations’ relief agencies and local authorities.
