The cabinet was briefed on preparations by various concerned bodies and their arrangements to implement this year’s plan within the framework of the comprehensive projects provided by the government to provide comfort for the pilgrims. Crown Prince Abdullah welcomed the pilgrims who have been arriving from all over the world to perform Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam.
The cabinet also praised the great generous response of citizens during the national campaign to raise funds for the victims of the tsunami which struck the Indian Ocean region. The cabinet noted that the campaign demonstrated the Kingdom's humanitarian commitment to helping alleviate the suffering of others in need.
On behalf of King Fahd and the government of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Abdullah congratulated Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazin) for winning the Palestinian presidential elections Sunday. Crown Prince Abdullah wished Dr. Abbas all the success in achieving security, stability and prosperity for the Palestinian people, and the establishment of an independent state with Al-Quds as its capital.
On domestic issues, the cabinet issued the following decisions: approved a new system of transportation for pilgrims. Authorized the General President of Youth Welfare or his deputy to negotiate and sign a memorandum of understanding between the Saudi Arabian Football Federation and its Italian counterpart in the field of sports. Approved a Ministry of Higher Education proposal authorizing the Higher Education and Universities Council and the Supreme Committee for Education Policy to proceed with the authority they had prior to the cabinet's decision No. 143 dated 3/5/1425H; extended the term of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Electricity Company, headed by the Minister of Water and Electricity, until 30/11/1426 H.
The Cabinet approved the appointments of Dr. Abdullah bin Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Alme'jel as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education for Cultural Relations; Ahmed bin Ali bin Ma'eedh Alzahrani as Director General of the General Administration for Consultants at the Saudi Commission for Investigation and General Prosecution; Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ahmed Almidaiheem as Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection and Labor Relations at the Ministry of Labor; and Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Alsheeha as Assistant Undersecretary for Animal Resources Affairs at the Ministry of Agriculture.
