Agriculture Minister opens seminar in Riyadh

Minister of Agriculture Dr Fahd Balghunaim opened in Riyadh today the second seminar on Saudi agriculture under the theme: 'Opportunities and Challenges', organized by the Saudi Society for Agricultural Sciences. Addressing the seminar, he said the value of the Kingdom’s agricultural product had increased from only SR 990 million [U.S. $ 264.4 million] in 1970 to SR 38 billion [$ 10.1 billion] in 2004. The agricultural sector, he pointed out, has created 582,000 job opportunities, almost half of which are occupied by Saudis. Part of the Kingdom’s strategy is ‘The Future Plan of Agriculture in the Kingdom’, a document prepared in cooperation with the Crown Prince Abdullah Institute for Research and Consultative Studies at King Saud University.
