Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has approved the proposal forwarded to him by General President of Youth Welfare Prince Sultan bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz, that half of the committee members be elected, for the Saudi Olympic Committee and for the various sports federations nationwide. The directive also authorized the President of Youth Welfare to appoint the chairmen of these sports federations.

Individual sports clubs are therefore granted the opportunity to elect their representatives on the boards of directors of the sports federations. These representatives constitute 50 percent of the membership.

An ad hoc committee is to be formed under the chairmanship of Deputy President of Youth Welfare Prince Nawaf bin Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz, to draft the executive regulations for setting up sports federations in their new format. The committee will be in contact with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs in order to benefit from its experience in holding the Kingdom's first municipal elections.
