Kingdom’s infant mortality rate down significantly

Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health Dr Yaqub Al-Mazro'a, on the eve of World Health Day which Saudi Arabia will celebrate tomorrow, announced a significant drop in the Kingdom’s infant mortality rate, down from 57 per thousand in 1982 to 18 per thousand in 2003. This achievement, he said, is due to the establishment of a network of medical centers providing pediatric and maternity care and an efficient system of health information including family health registers and cards for children and pregnant mothers. This year’s World Health Day slogan is “Make every mother and child count”.
