Saudi Ambassador to the US Prince Turki Al-Faisal met with Saudi dentist Dr Sultan A. Al-Mubarak at the embassy in Washington December 16. Prince Turki congratulated Dr Mubarak on receiving an Alumnus Certificate of Excellence from the Department of Periodontics and Endodontics of the State University of New York at Buffalo. The certificate – the first to be given to any international dentist – was awarded to Dr Al-Mubarak for his research in the interaction between dental infections and systemic disease, a field that has recently received global scientific attention.
Dr Al-Mubarak is chairman of the Dental Department at the Sultan bin Abdulaziz Humanitarian City Hospital in Riyadh and a visiting associate professor at the Center for Dental Studies of SUNY-Buffalo. In 2000, he completed his postgraduate fellowship at SUNY-Buffalo’s School of Dental Medicine, which has longstanding scientific ties with academic facilities in the Kingdom.
