Royal Court announces death of King Fahd; Crown Prince Abdullah proclaimed King

  Crown Prince Abdullah was proclaimed King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today

The Royal Court announced this morning with deep sorrow and pain the death of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz due to illness.  Funeral prayers for King Fahd will be held tomorrow following Asr (afternoon) prayers at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.

In accordance with Article 5 of the Basic Law of Governance, Crown Prince Abdullah was proclaimed King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  King Abdullah has designated as Crown Prince His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz.

         

The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington DC issued a statement today announcing the opening of a condolence book.
