Number of umrah performers increases by one third

The Minister of Pilgrimage has reported that during the first six months of the current hijrah year of 1426, which began on February 10, 2005, the number of visas issued for umrah and the number of pilgrims performing the minor pilgrimage was about 30 percent higher than the number for the same period of 1425. The report also noted an increase in the number of umrah performers who overstay, and measures are being taken to ensure that everyone who is issued a visa returns home after performing the rituals.
